Local Laws

The speed with which the Authorities act in the event of visitors breaching local laws and moral codes means that it is rare for nationals to be held in custody for more than 24 hours or so. Local Justice is swift, but expects cooperation at all points. It will be rare that Consular support can be made available in the timescale required. Most offenses will be settled with a fine, or, particularly for young women breaching their codes of dress, behavior or alcohol rules, the 'short sharp shock' of Corporal Punishment will be applied.

Most Police Stations and Courts are equipped to enable this to be carried out without delay immediately upon admission of guilt or on conviction.

Our advice is therefore to ensure that alcohol is avoided, that bare flesh is not displayed in public, and anything that could be see as temptation to the local people strictly should be strictly avoided.
