"You're gonna get a switching, young lady!". This was routine life back in Georgia. This is a totem of strict, suburban life. Yes there were peeping Toms (ha-ha), but moreover, naughty lil' madams gotten their bare botties whipped in front of family & friends (and God!!) by mom or pop. It was normal. Just a good, Ol' common whuppin'.
I myself never gotten a whuppin' outdoors as a lil' girl in the 1960s. For sure, I gotten a few (fresh, picked, green shoot) switchings inside, knickers down, naturally.
But the main "rod of correction" in our house, from the get-go, was mom's dreaded, flexi-thin, rattan cane (also called "the switch", kept in the downstairs cupboard) which lil' sister & me gotten on our porcelain-white, sensitive, bare, botty-bot-popos when naughty. No wishy-washy nonsense !! Yeah, it was a switching of sorts.
Oh my! Certain Hell but harmless, and necessary IMHO !!
Just par for the course. Just darn normal! :-(
A bit more PC in recent years, for sure, but a great view of Southern life & moral, traditional values Belinda, with this drawing, thank you.
